Everyone dreads that terrible word “packing”, I know I do. I believe that each type trip is different to pack for, but these tips will make packing not so dreadful!

  1. First things, first …. MAKE A LIST!

You will want to make a list each time you travel, so that you can check it off as you put it in your suitcase. This will ensure you will not forget anything.

2. Read your airline’s baggage policies

Each airline has different policies about how many bags you can check under the plane and how many you can carry on with you. It is best to check the weight and size requirements as well. You will want to check for cost of each and prepared to pay for the bags when you check in at the airport.

3. Know what you can carry in your carry on and what has to go under the plane

There is nothing worse than getting to the airport security line and having to chuck one of your favorite items in the trash. Check out TSA (Transportation Security Administration) policies below.

4. Make sure you add your government ID to the list

Your driver's license will get you anywhere in the US and you’ll need a passport to travel outside the country! For more info check out the below link!

5. Carry On Essentials

You never know when your checked baggage might get lost. A few must have items that you will want to make sure that are packed in your carry on:

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and make up remover.

  • Medications

  • Change of clothes and underwear

  • Documents (travel documents, passports or ID)

  • Chargers for your electronics

  • Sentimental valuables (I always take my jewelry in my carry on)

  • Items to keep you entertained (books, magazines, kindles, phones for music and apps)

6. Zip up your liquids!!

You will want to make sure you keep your liquids separate. It is best to keep them in their own cosmetic bag or put them in ziplock bags. (I am the queen of ziplock baggies) You don’t want your clothes to be covered in shampoo when you get to your final destination.

7. Try not to overpack

You do not want to have scram at the airport trying to stuff some of your items in your companions suitcase if yours is overweight. Try to think about what you really need and cut the rest. Think the same way about toiletries. You can always pick up more when you are there. A lot of hotels provide toiletries in your room.

8. Wear your heaviest items on the plane

If you are traveling in the winter, then wear your boots and jacket on the airplane.

9. Pack extra ziplock bags or an extra tote bag

It is also good to bring an extra ziplock or tote bag. This is incase of dirty clothes or if you buy too many souvenirs, then you might need an extra carry on bag.

10. Leave room in your suitcase

Leave room for souvenirs! You might think that you won’t purchase anything when you are on a trip, but let's be real once you get there you will want to.

11. Double check your list one last time!

Read through your list one last time to ensure you packed everything!
